Flynn's Euros Success

Max Flynn, a former player of the Westgate Perfomance Centres development squad, has smashed, dropped and cleared his way to winning a silver medal in this years European Junior Championships alongside his doubles partner Callum Hemming.

The pair faced some serious talent at the event in Mulhouse, France, but were able to defeat a cohort of highly ranked players that included the 2nd, 3rd and 5th seeds as they progressed into the final.

Here, they faced Thom Gicquel and Toma Junior Popov, the French first seeds backed by a wildly supportive home crowd.

Speaking to Solent Journalism, Flynn Said, "There were probably three or four hundred French supporters. They were chanting and they had drums...It was tough for us because every point they won would be celebrated massively and if we won a point it would be quiet.”

Though they were eventually bested by Gicquel and Popov, Flynn remained humble. "We thought we had a chance in the final against the favourites, but they’re very talented players.

Max has now moved up to senior level following his birthday a day after the event, which may see him compete against stars such as Olympic Bronze Medalist's Chris Langridge and Marcus Ellis.

We here at the centre wish him the best of luck moving forward!
